  • Founded in 1898 by descendants of the original settlers of the Connecticut Reserve and located at 323 Wick Avenue.

  • Land for the church was purchased by local merchants and ironmakers, reflecting the city’s industrial foundations.

  • Designed by William Halsey Wood of New Jersey, the church is a distinguished example of the Arts and Crafts Movement, featuring a rough stone interior that emphasizes craftsmanship, material integrity, and spiritual warmth.

  • Houses an extraordinary collection of stained glass:

    • The Te Deum window (1901) showcases one of the richest palettes of Tiffany glass.

    • Additional Tiffany works include The Resurrection Angel and paired angel windows along the nave.

    • Further stained glass by Connick Studios of Boston and Willet Stained Glass of Philadelphia depict Old and New Testament themes.

  • Clerestory windows installed in the 1950s reinterpret steel mill labor through biblical quotations.

  • In 2000, a major capital campaign marked the church’s centennial, raising over $500,000 for restoration, mechanical upgrades, community outreach, and completion of the Schlicker organ.

  • Known for its annual Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival, Red Door Café, food pantry, and numerous outreach ministries.

  • Today, St. John’s remains a vibrant parish grounded in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
